Everyone knows that high IQ is no guarantee of success, happiness, or virtue, but until Emotional Intelligence, we could only guess why. Daniel Goleman's brilliant report from the frontiers of psychology and neuroscience offers startling new insight into our “two minds”—the rational and the emotional—and how they together shape our destiny.

Through vivid examples, Goleman delineates the five crucial skills of emotional intelligence, and shows how they determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being. What emerges is an entirely new way to talk about being smart.

The best news is that “emotional literacy” is not fixed early in life. Every parent, every teacher, every business leader, and everyone interested in a more civil society, has a stake in this compelling vision of human possibility.

So where’s the HOW!? Never told you how to improve one’s skills, just made you informed or aware of this topic – read other reviews same complaint. Big miss in leaving that out.

Excellent book. I’m definately a negative person. I knew I had to change that, so I bought a couple of books to help me with this (not a fan of psychologist in the flesh), anyways. The book is self-explanatory. It gives you insight on how you brain functions and a great deal of tips to encounter your better self when solving problems, discussing with people, appealing to your good side always. J Becker says:

Connect with people to succeed in life Excellent book on the softer skills that many of us technical people haven’t developed. The book introduces you to these skills, explains why they are useful and provides instruction on how to develop them. This book is a must for the average technician or professional that wants to progress up the ladder of success or learn how to connect with people better. Hell, it helped me understand how to communicate and connect with my spouse much better, as well!
